Description School: London. Circa 1760 to 1785. Overall length: 32”. Barrel length: 16 – ¼” (original). Round with bell muzzle barrel. Flintlock mechanism. Walnut stock. No carvings. This original condition “blunderbuss” has a signed “John Richards” flintlock and a “Strand London” marked, browned barrel. There is some evidence of “insect bores” infestation on the left side and upper buttstock. The holes are filled in nicely with wax. The “blunderbuss” guns were purely for close-range defense, of prime importance both in peacetime and wartime.
