Marshall Family Philadelphia Coin Silver
Philadelphia, PA, 19th century, two coin silver pieces from a larger service, includes a coffee pot and tea pot, both marked P. Garrett for Philip Garrett of Philadelphia (active 1801-35), and engraved JHM; wt. of coffee pot 1191g, and wt. of teapot 843g, total wt. of both approx. 64ozt.
Within the coffee pot is a note from the family of ownership: These silver pieces have passed through my family for generations. My father, Marshell Gathof was the nephew of Rev. William Marshall...William Marshall was the uncle of Chief Justice John Marshall and brother to the Justice's father. The note is signed Blanche Gathof Ketchen.
Both monogrammed.
