American, 20th century, a sterling silver presentation pitcher with beaded decoration and inscription, reading Halley's Comet Cup/ donated by Sam'l H. Halley/Won by/ W. S. Montgomery/ 1910, the reverse side, This Trophey/ to be returned to/ the Lexington Country Club/ at each reappearance of/*Halley's Comet*/ and contested for by/ The Golf Players. Marked Sterling, hallmarked International Silver Co.: ht. 7.5 in., silver wt. 16.85ozt (524g).
Halley's Comet is a short-period comet, visible by earth every 75-76 years. Named in 1705 by English astronomer Edmond Halley.
