A FINE PATINATED BRONZE SCULPTURE OF AN ALLEGORICAL GROUP
20th Century
The dramatic sculpture depicting the Angel Gabriel taking a Sabine woman from her young betrothed while she struggles and holds her arms aloft in fear and surprise; the angel keeps his knee on the shoulder and arm of the young man who is lying under the angel with clenched fists, one holding the woman's robe; all raised on a naturalistic base with papyrus leaves in relief on a conforming plinth; no visible signature. This Italian theme from the sixteenth century done in the style of Giovanni da Bologna.


Condition: Overall very good; some wear to patination in areas. 40 x 18 1/2 x 19 inches (102 x 47 x 48 cm)
