A BRONZE SCULPTURE ""PAN ET NYMPH"" AFTER CLODION
France, 19th Century The sculpture depicting Pan holding aloft a tambourine while seated on a tree stump and balancing a nymph on his knee, all raised on a naturalistic circular base; the bronze with a dark brown patina. Signed ""Clodion"" in script in the bronze on the base; Claude Michel Clodion lived from 1738 to 1814. Later mounted to a verte marble and chased bronze doré base with clock; stamped ""78 E.C."" and ""medaille D'ergent, 1855"" on reverse; stamped ""GJL"" on base. 33 x 17 x 13 inches (84 x 43 x 33 cm) Two pieces total including clock bass ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
