AN IMPRESSIVE CONTINENTAL PAINTED AND GILDED BRONZE FIVE-PIECE CLOCK GARNITURE
Late 19th century The garniture consisting of a tall urn form clock, two urn form five-light candelabra, and two vases; all pieces having a gilt bronze foliate scroll base with four feet and all but the clock having a gilt bronze gadrooned domed top; decorated with silver, gold, and copper flowering plants on a deep blue ground; the clock and candelabra each mounted with two gilt bronze handles consisting of a heraldic shield against a large acanthus leaf. Each vase dome topped by a small wreath; each candelabrum having a spiral decorated central pole topped with a candle cup and supporting four openwork armatures. The clock dial having black Arabic numbers; the inside back plate of the clock numbered 93717 over a V, with a circular Medal of Honor stamp reading JAPY FRÈRES below, and the numbers 4 and 4 below that; no winding key. clock: 32 ½ x 15 ¼ x 10 ¼ inches (82.5 x 38.7 x 26 cm) Five pieces total candelabra: 30 x 11 x 10 ¾ inches (76.2 x 28 x 27.8 cm) vase: 15 x 5 1/8 x 5 1/8 inches (38.1 x 13 x 13 cm) ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
