A LARGE MEISSEN GILDED AND DECORATED PORCELAIN FIGURAL LAMP BASE
Germany, 19th Century
The lamp base consisting of three maidens holding hands and standing back-to-back around a central leafy column set on a shaped triangular base, itself raised on a low triangular platform having three lion-headed corners and lion-paw feet; the maidens dressed in neoclassical draped garments decorated with floral sprays; the central column and platform with applied-flower branches and swags, respectively; the column topped with a pierced bronze foliate cap for lamp fixtures; maker's mark of blue crossed swords and an asterisk on underside.
Condition: The maidens with a repaired break and small surface loss to a pair of joined hands. The platform with a few surface cracks (manufacturing flaws) and a few edge chips; restoration to top surface near one lion head, to jaw of another lion head, and to the latter's paw foot where once broken off. A few petal edges broken off the applied flowers on column, many petal edges broken off platform swags. 28 ¾ x 18 ½ x 17 inches (73 x 47 x 43.2 cm)
