A PAIR OF NEOCLASSICAL STYLE MOLDED AND GILDED VASES
France Each of the gilt-decorated vases in the form of a tall ancient Greek calyx crater with two gilded and modeled swan “handles;” the upper part of the vase decorated on one side with a large N surrounded by a wreath and four bees, and on the other side with a crowned eagle holding the Hand of Justice, part of Napoleon's coat of arms, all framed by a gold band; the everted lip and foot having white molded petals and beads, respectively; marked on undersides in gold with N, HAND PAINTED, and MADE IN FRANCE above a dark blue script signature Jsco. Condition: One vase with a faint hairline crack down one side from lip to bottom of gold framing band. The other vase loose where the foot meets the vase proper; also minor loss to gilding around lip, and gilding worn off the tips of the swans' bills. 11 x 5 5/8 x 5 5/8 inches (28 x 14.2 x 14.2 cm) Two pieces total ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
