A FIGURED WALNUT GERMAN SLANT FRONT DESK
19th Century
The plank top with figured reserved and straight grain banding has a stepped ogee edge that is supported by a a slant front cabinet with locking panel that opens to reveal a figured walnut writing surface, seven drawers, and nine cubbies with turned walnut pulls. The lower cabinet steps out with a bullnose edge and serpentine front featuring three locking drawers with escutcheons and drop pulls. Each drawer is banded with five reserves of figured walnut and the large center panel with book matched figured walnut and diamond inset. The whole raised on a shaped apron and bun feet.

Condition: Wear to finish; later hardware. Refinished. 46 x 47 1/2 x 28 inches (117 x 121 x 71 cm)
