A GOOD CONTINENTAL PAINTED PORCELAIN CENTER TABLE
Probably French The top features a drawing room scene in exquisite detail of a young man reading, presumably poetry, to his betrothed and her two young chaperones. The midnight blue glazed field surrounds the scene punctuated by floral cameos and enclosed in a pierced bronze gallery. The top is supported by an equally elaborate parcel gilt porcelain base of S-scroll forms with putti climbing playfully among the acanthus. A floral festoon stretcher supports two young recumbent maidens and all raised on midnight blue paw feet. Minor wear to finish and oxidation to bronze. No chipping to figural forms. 33 1/2 x 32 x 32 inches (87.6 x 81.3 x 81.3 cm) ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
