A FRENCH RÉGENCE STYLE HAND-CARVED GILTWOOD CONSOLE WITH MARBLE TOP
Mid 19th Century The exaggerated serpentine serra collin agglomerate marble top with Dupont edge is supported by a deeply recessed conforming body with a relief carved diaper pattern frieze supported by a delicately carved scallop shell and pierced carved symmetrical acanthus scrolls that undulate and transform into a curling shell form. The apron is supported by richly carved C-scrolls with bell-flower pendants and acanthus scroll feet. The whole stabilized by an incurved carved stretcher with pierce carved shell. Condition: Shrinkage cracks at joints commensurate with age. Some wear to finish and minor chips to gilding. Top cracked in center and repaired.
