A BERLIN ORMOLU-MOUNTED PAINTED AND GILDED PORCELAIN VASE CONVERTED TO A LAMP
19th Century The urn-shaped vase having a cobalt body and foot, a gilded neck, and two scrolling ormolu handles, each springing from a cluster of oak leaves and ending in two uncoiling snakes; one side with a painted shaped reserve depicting a young child with one shoe off standing in a barnyard eating a piece of fruit while two chickens look on; the other side with a gilded wreath encircling the initials JB, the ribbon below dated 1811 or 1877, indicating possibly a memorial urn; a cluster of ormolu fruit and vegetables forming the finial at the top; all set on a floral-decorated octagonal ormolu base; maker's mark of a blue sceptre on underside; electrified.
