A CHINESE POLYCHROME EMBROIDERED ON PINK GROUND SILK CLOUD COLLAR, LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY, of rectangular form with ruyi shaped corners enclosing finely stitched colorful fluttering butterflies amongst auspicious blossoming stems with gilt thread details centered by a silver thread border and black silk rolled trim, professionally mounted in a silver-leaf carved and glazed shadow box frame. Note: In the days of Imperial China, collars, such as this one, were made separately, allowing for their use over different robes. The complexity of the needlework, materials used and the subject was limited only by the maiden and her sewing abilities. This continued until the end of the Qing Dynasty and into the early Republic Period. Height: 24 3/8" Width: 23 7/8"
