A CHINESE EXPORT FIGURAL IVORY CHESS SET, LATE 19TH CENTURY, each piece carved standing on the Chu of Pao Pao, on circular base. Height of kings: 5"; the players, both stained red and natural, modeled as emperors and empresses, knights on horseback, pawns as soldiers, rooks as elephants surmounted by turret and mahout. Comes with inlaid box converting to a chess board.
