AN ITALIAN ROCOCO POLYCHROME PAINTED CARVED WOOD COMMODE, POSSIBLY SOUTHERN ITALY, 18TH CENTURY, the serpentine rectangular top above a white painted body centering two short drawers above two long drawers enclosing "C" scroll and rocaille cast escutcheons flanked by similarly modeled bronze pulls within colorfully decorated floral sprays and clusters over a conforming shaped skirt rail having consistent details and raised on short tapering feet.Note: This commode exhibits design details and floral painting that is often found in the more rural areas of the southern Italian states, such as those surrounding Naples and possibly Sicily. A partly legible handwritten label is on the underside of the left top drawer Height: 35" Width: 47" Depth: 23"
