A PAIR OF RUSSIAN CHINOISERIE POLYCHROME PAINTED CARVED AND GILTWOOD ARMCHAIRS, LATE 20TH CENTURY, each with a salamander's tail entwined arched crest rail centering a beaded and foliate sculpted basket continuing to salamander head detailed shoulders flanking a conforming panel of colorfully painted scenes of chinoiserie figures at various pursuits above vine entwined rectangular frames with padded backs issuing salamander detailed arms on similarly carved seat rail frame raised on tapering circular legs with stylized fretwork decoration.Note: These armchairs are replicas of one originally by the workshop of Charlemagne in 1784, for the Great Chinese Drawing Room at the Catherine Palace, Tsarskoe Selo from the design of the architect and designer Charles Cameron (1740-1812).
