Title: Floral
Traditional oil on canvas signed, lower right oil on canvas 35.75 x 26 inches Today Max Carlier is known as one of the greatest still life masters of Belgium. Born in Tourcoing, Belgium in 1872, Carlier was a painter of the Belgian School who most typically executed still lifes of florals and fruits. He also painted genre scenes and interiors from time to time. He lived and worked primarily in Brussels, but traveled extensively throughout Europe, especially Italy. Carlier did live and work in Brittany for a short period of time as well. Working with a warm palette, Carlier's still lifes are painted in the Neo-Dutch tradition, and this is one of the largest and finest examples of his works we have seen. This tradition took on force towards the end of the 18th century with artists such as G_rard van Spaendonck, Jan van Huysum and Rachel Roysch; and the finely executed still lifes gained an unwavering popularity throughout Europe during the 19th Century. As with these great leaders in still life painting, Carlier demonstrates an analytical approach, opulent compositions, unerring eye for refined detail, unparalleled craftsmanship and a high finish. Max AlbertęCarlier is a brilliant painter of still lifes, flowers and fruit. Condition reportExcellent
