Antique French TrumeauH=56 1/2, W=28 1/4A Framed Giltwood Trumeau from France with Oil Painting on Canvas - Good Antique Condition - Minor chips and rubs to frame -Circa 1900This charming trumeau from France has a scene of a man assisting a woman reclining upon a fainting couch. There is draping in the background and an what appears to be a savonnerie rug on the floor. The mirror beneath the painting is original to the piece and the giltwood frame is water gilded with incised leaf ornamentation and raised decoration. The frame has been attached on the sides to a partial boiserie molding, painted a grey blue. This would have been part of a wooden paneled room or boiserie.
