Description: Extremely rare royal Mogul tapestry dating to 17th.-18th. century. It is hand woven and embroidered on red velvet with gold threads. The tapestry suffered some damage over the century: the central portion of the background velvet has a central rip and also marginal damage to the tapestry and the backing red textile backing. Nevertheless, the textile is having clear design and the damage is consistent with the considerable age of this textile. This textile probably originates from the palace of maharajah residing in Varanasi. Dimensions: 72" X 64" (183 cm. X 163 cm.). Estimated retail value: $8,000.
