Lot Passed

Description: Spectacular large and heavy silver and gold pendant. The pendant is made from a very authentic looking copy of the famous dekadrachm of Syracuse, probably the most famous coin of antiquity. The dekadrachm is from the time of king Dionysios I (405-367 BCE). An original Syracuse dekadrachm of Syracuse (Sicily) is displayed in the website of ANA (American Numismatic Association). The silver coin copy is encased in a heavy gold bezel marked 585. If original, the coin alone would be 15 times higher than the price of this pendant. Total weight is 53.5 gm. Diameter: 2.1" (5.3 cm.). The coin diameter is 1.5" (4 cm.). Analog to Dewing 818ff. Estimated value: $8000.
