Description: Exquisite and rare 17th.-18th. century Burmese lacquer container with relief gilded decorations and inlaid polychrome glass insets imitating the precious stones. The decorations are in shape of phoenix birds encircling a central floral panel. Several ornamental parts are missing due to the high relief of the applique on lacquer and the exposure of the glass insets to friction with handling over the centuries. The interior contains 3 cinnabar lacquer compartments. Diameter; 5.1" (13 cm.). Height: 4.5" (11.5 cm.). Estimated value: $7000.
