Condition: Minor pitting to bronze; some loss of relief -Late 1800Ís- This pair of antique French bronze chenets have a patinated verdigris finish to them. There is a finial at the top of an open acanthus leaf cartouche which is atop a fluted urn. Beneath this are classical motifs of central medallion shapes with womenÍs faces topped with knotted ribbons, surrounded by laurel leaf ornamentation. Drapery motifs fall on either side from pinecone finials. The base is a stylized fleur-de-lys in leaf form with flame or torch finials to one side. Gadrooned lobes atop an indented decorated molding are on five different feet holding the chenets. These chenets would grace a small marble, stone or more formal fireplace. They could also be made into beautiful lamp bases.H=19 1/4, W=13, D=6 1/4
