An Antique Pair of French Louis XIII Style Narrow Bibliotheques with Leaded Stained Glass Upper Cabinets and Hand Carved Scenes in Perspective on Lower Cabinets _ Single Drawer Beneath Central Opening between Cabinets _ European Oak Very Good Antique Condition -1 minor crack to stained glass_ Circa 1900.This stunning pair of narrow antique French bibliotheques (bookcases) are most unusual. The top portion of each cabinet has leaded stained glass windows in colorations of red, green, gold, amethyst , turquoise and a circle of etched foliate opaque glass. There is an open space with decorative urn shaped supports between the top and bottom cabinets . The bottom cabinets house a full length drawer with gadrooned , lobed decoration . The fronts of the bottom cabinets feature a hand carved panel in perspective of different festive scenes . One scene is the outside of a coupleÍs home with a tree in the background. The couple is dancing to a bagpiperÍs melody, while a friend with a mug in hand, watches on joyfully. The other scene, also carved in perspective, is a group of people in a chateau room sitting on benches in front of a fireplace. They appear to be discussing something in a trunk. There are shutters on the walls and a small lantern hanging from the ceiling. The hats of the women in both scenes are indicating they are from the Normandy region.These spectacular pieces are very finely carved in the Louis XIII style, and probably by cabinetmakers from the Normandy region.H=91 1/2, W=34 3/4, D=20 1/2
