A Period French Louis XV, Walnut Wood Lyonnaise Commode with Three Drawers - Condition: Previous Restorations; Interior sides and backs of all drawers replaced; Rubs, nicks, and wear to some areas. Circa-Third quarter 1700Ís This magnificent period French Louis XV commode of French walnut wood has a shaped top over three conforming bombe drawers with traverse rails. With its frontage being bombe, all the drawer fronts and rails would have been individually hand carved from a solid piece of walnut wood. The cabinetmaker would have had to make very exacting curves to align everything at the proper angle for the bombe. Delicate hand carved floral and gadrooned shell relief was carved from the wood on each side of the three drawers. The apron has a central shaped ornament with indented molding. The front feet are shaped and short while the back feet are block as is usually the standard in 18th C. pieces. This is a rare piece in age and condition. H=35 3/4, W=50 5/8, D=26 3/4
