Camel and black wooden hat box with French styling,actually a cheese box from the 19th century was manufactured by the famous Blum Bros. cheese box and butter tub company in Marshfield,Wisconsin. Portions of the name still legible on the bottom. Covered in pages from Harper's Bazaar,Jan 8,1881 showing advertising for ladies street and house dresses,Ladies and Miss's winter bonnets,silk and lace dresses,bordered veiling dress,brocade and lace dresses. The wooden lid and space between advertising of the day are covered in 19th century treasury notes,ranging from $1 to $500 from banks and associations across portions of the south,FL,MS,SC,AL,TN,Ak,VA,GA and LA are shown with interesting information on each. As there is no record of the Blum Co. manufacturing hat boxes such as this ,one must assume an artistic woman designed her own and sealed the paper with coats of a form of heavy varnish for protection. The lid band is covered with newspaper articles from the era. Minimal wear to any of the paper and the box in perfect condition and.Outstanding storage box for any items with a preservation of history.Measures 16H X 14L X 14D.
