Thai Buddha Head Sculpture, Bronze on wood base - Chieng Sen style and period, Northern Thailand, 14-15th century style that likely was produced in the late 19th century, due to the excellent cosmetic condition.
Size: 17" H x 17.5" H X 7" L X 6.5"W Weight: 11lbs. 10oz Condition: Excellent *********************************************************** This Buddha is in the Chiang Saen or Lanna style. The Chiang Saen or Lanna style (between 11th and 18th centuries A.D.) was influenced by the styles of the Khmer, Sukhothai, India, Burma and Sri Lanka. The first thing one sees about this style is the orb shaped finial which looks like a lotus bud on the top of the head of the Buddha. The face is round and smiling, with high curving highbrows, a hooked nose and mostly narrow lips. The eyes are down cast as if in meditation. The Buddha has a wealth of curls on his head which look like snail shells. His earlobes are stretched. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
