Gorilla in white metal with bronze finish signed 'Sally Clark, 1932'. Sally Clark was a Renaissance woman who had famed hunting skills. She hunted in Africa, but about the age of 50 turned to sculpting.
Her first piece was a gorilla sculpted in 1932, the year of this work formed by her hands from the remains of a gorilla brought back from the Congo and propped over a tank, probably filled with formaldehyde. See 'They Made Their Mark' an Illustrated History of the Society of Woman Geographers, by Jane Eppinga. Size: 5.75" x 3.25" x 6" Weight: 2lbs 2oz Condition: Only tiny imperfections in the finish.
