Locket - Yellow gold-filled Art Nouveau locket, lion and cub relief ornament. Initials engraved on the back of the case, "M G", for Margaret Geib, the original owner of the locket. Stamped inside the locket: 'W & H Co. Locket - Yellow gold-filled Art Nouveau locket, lion and cub relief ornament. Initials engraved on the back of the case, "M G", for Margaret Geib, the original owner of the locket. Stamped inside the locket: 'W & H Co. This locket has the hallmark of Wightman and Hough Company of Providence, Rhode Island. They manufactured lockets that were high priced and usually in gold and sterling. This locket is gold-filled. Initials are engraved on the front of the locket. When open the hallmark "W&H CO" in a heart can be seen on one side and the compartment on the other. Jewelry like this locket was very popular during the Victorian period. The lock of hair of a loved one was placed in the locket as a memento. circa mid 1800s. .
