Gouache on paperboard, signed verso, Salvador Dali, Spanish, 1904 -89. Though this work is officially unauthenticated it is believed to be by the hand of Dali. The low estimate is to let the marketplace have the decisive power. This work was executed circa 1932 and is quite possibly a portrait his wife Gala. It is inscribed verso by Pat Codyre who worked at the Museum of Modern Art and was instrumental in organizing exhibits for MOMA he titled 'The Unknowns', for which he was removed from their employ. He also corroborated with Julien Levy Gallery in New York who gave Dali his first New York City show in 1933. Dali sold no works at either of his first two shows in New York at Julien Levy Galleries. This work has descended in the consignor's family for over 60 years.
