Oil on Canvas, Indians Encampment by Octavius Augustus White, Canadian, 1826-1903. Octavius was a physician and painter born in Charleston, SC and served in the Confederate army, and later moved to New York. Octavius was the son of John Blake White (1781-1859) artist, also from Charleston. Three of John Blake White's histoical paintings were donated to the Senate in 1899.
