Oil on canvas painting by Octave de Champeaux de la Boulaye c 1890, French Impressionist. Large format pastoral painting in an early impressionist style. Boulaye was a pupil of de Diaz and de Dupré, famous French Barbizon School painters. He was also an official painter of the French Navy in 1890, as a Peintre de la Marine (Painter of the Fleet), a title awarded by the minister of defence in France to artists who have devoted their talents to the sea, the French Navy and other maritime subjects.
