Springfield Rifle, 1830, Indian Owned, 60 caliber 29.5" round barrel with removed front sight, conversion percussion lock marked "Springfield 1830" behind hammer, with steel trigger guard with sling swivel, butt plate, partial back plate and 2 remaining barrel straps with cut ramrod, cut down walnut stock with trade silver disc tacked to right side, cordage wrapped wrist repair with tin tinkler, cordage wrapping on either side of primer nipple with 4 tin tinklers, old patina, total length 44.7".
Musket accompanied by notarized document that reads This old Springfield muzzle loading rifle is from the late Dr. W.T. Ross Collection of Tucson. Dr. Ross collected Apache artifacts from San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation and White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation in Arizona from the 1930s to the 1950s. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from John J. Hayes, Historical Collectibles of Gettysburg, PA, dated January 5, 2006. The letter states that this musket was originally owned by Dr. W. T. Ross, then Mr. Hayes, and that Dr. Ross collected the piece on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation. Provenance: Miki and James J.
