Hand-colored print from a steel engraving of 'First In Peace', 1857, contemporary frame. Made to commemorate the arrival of George Washington to New York for his inauguration in 1789. Bears the following inscription: 'To The People of America, this Engraving of "First In Peace" original painting is Respectfully Dedicated . Representing the Arrival of General George Washington at the Battery, New York, April 23, 1789 Previous to His Inauguration As The First President of the United States of America, April 30th 1789.' Also printed beneath the view: 'Entered According Act of Congress, A.D. 1857 by John C. McRae in the Clerks Office of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York'.
