Signature, Lord Wharncliffe, dated 1839 letter. Personal letter from Wharncliffe to General Sir Charles Napier. Letter appears to be discussing regiments of the army assigned to Napier, and is dated "Manchester 16 May 1839". There is a portrait of Napier measuring 7"x5" at the top of the frame, with the letter measuring 8.5"x7". Professionally matted and framed and ready for display.

A grandson of Prime Minister John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute, he held office under Sir Robert Peel as Lord Privy Seal between 1834 and 1835 and as Lord President of the Council between 1841 and 1845.
