American saber with wide fuller marked on the ricasso K & R(Kirschbaum & Schnitzler), Solingen. One side of the blade is etched "Honour And My Country", crossed cannons, American flags and a pole to Liberty Cap. Etching on the opposite side includes a sun face with seven pointed rays, a laurel wreath, eagle with shield and 17 stars(1803, Ohio-1812, Lousianna) with E Pluribus Unum in a ribbon. Again the crossed cannons, American flags and pole to Liberty Cap. Brass hilt, sharkskin grip wrapped in wire both wide and narrow, steel scabbard with brass bolsters and support rings. Harold Peterson in "The American Sword" pages 107-8 states that this is a mounted artillery officer's sword. French manufacture with Solingen blade. Circa 1808.
