Nantucket Basket, woven by Paul F. Whitten, circa 1975. Scrimshaw whale tooth top. Tooth scrimshaw done & signed C.W. Vandehoop of the native American Wampanog tribe of Mashpee. The weaver, Paul Whitten, was born in North Easton, Massachusetts 1908 & died on Nantucket, Massachusetts 1997 - he wrote several books on Nantucket adventures and also the 'Nantucket Baskets' book.
