Box, U.S. Indian Agent, Lewis 1889, Sioux Lakota. This leather covered wood box has the original brass plaque Paul N Lewis from the Pine Ridge Indian Agency. Metal plaques on the box state "US Indian Agent, 1889" and "Pine Ridge Indian Agency, Paul N Lewis". The interior is made of wood. Bottom of the box is wood inscribed "Paul N. Lewis Indian Agency, 1889". This box was in use just one year before the famous Massacre at Wounded Knee that occurred in 1890. A great piece of Native American INdian history.
