18TH CENTURY MAP OF FRANCE TABULA EUROPAE III A hand-tinted map of France and the western basin of the Mediterranean about AD 100 showing the Gallia provinces of Germania, Lugdunensis, Aquitania and Narbonensis. City names, place names, and the names of rivers, large bodies of water, and mountain systems are labeled in Latin. From Ruscelli's Atlas, an expanded edition of Gastaldi's Atlas of 1548. Ruscelli's maps were engraved on copper, marking a turning point in the history of cartography. From that point forward, the majority of cartographic works used this medium. Size: 11.5 x 9" page size
