Magnificent Photogravure Etching By Internationally Acclaimed Photographer Edward Curtis (American, 1868-1952). This Spectacular Photogravure Is Entitled “The Parley - Custer's Demand" (1908) And Was Printed By John Andrews & Sons. Originally Published By The Suffolk Engraving Company, Cambridge, Mass., In 1925. This Etching Is Printed On Heavy Woven Arches Paper And Was Produced From The Original Plate. Rare And Difficult Subject To Acquire! Image Measures Approx. 7" X 8". Paper Measures 14" X 14 1/2". Comes With A Coa. Mint Condition. Unframed. The Edward Curtis 1920's Collection Of Photographs Of The North American Indians Is One Of The Largest Photographic Archives Ever Produced By A Single Artist And Probably The Most Profound Representation Of Pure Indian Culture That Has Ever Been Compiled. His Complete Publication, “The North American Indian”, Consists Of 20 Volumes Of Text With 1,500 Small Plates, Plus 20 Portfolios Of 36 Unbound Gravure Plates, Totaling Approximately 2,500 Images. Less Than 300 Sets Were Printed. These Are Highly Collectible Items With Subtle, Delicate Detail. For Thirty Years, From About 1900 To 1930, Edward S. Curtis Traveled The Vast Region West Of The Mississippi. Armed With A Variety Of Cameras, Curtis Made Thousands Of Photographs Of The More Than 80 Indian Tribes He Sought Out Along The Way. His Was A Singular Vision: To Preserve In Some Way What He Could Plainly See Was A Vanishing Race. From The Tribes Living Under The Relentless Sun Of The Southwest Desert To Those At Home In The Glacial Arctic, Curtis Created Some Of The Most Memorable And Haunting Portraits Ever Made Of The Native American Confronted By The Twentieth Century.
