Dated 1816 Embroidered Alphabet Sampler. The silk on linen ground sampler has four different styles of embroidered alphabet with verse. "No radiant pearl which crested fortune verses no gem that twinkling hands from beauty's ears nor the bright" stars, which nights blue arch adorn. Nor rising suns that gild the vernal morn. Shine with such luster, as the tear that breaks. For others woe, down Virtue's manly cheeks". Signed Elizabeth Pickles and dated December 1816. Sampler has a" decorative Greek key border. The sampler is in good condition with a bit of stitch loss on the bottom left at the word For. There is also some browning. Sampler looks as if it was once glued down but is now loose in frame. The sampler is" framed in a maple period style frame. Measures 12" high x 12" wide. Frame measures 15" high x 15" wide.
