Fine Transitional 18th Century Mahogany Bow-Front Chest of Drawers. Portsmouth, New Hampshire, circa 1790. This fine example of Portsmouth cabinetwork incorporates aesthetic features of the Federal period with elements characteristic of the Chippendale period, namely a bow-front façade with cabriole legs and ball-and-claw feet. The addition of a dressing slide is rare. The chest is in a fine state of preservation and it appears to have an old refinish. Measures 34 ¾" high 39 1/8" wide and 23" deep.
