Early 19th Century Portrait of a Young Boy (American 19th century) Young boy in pink dress with rocking horse". Oil on canvas. Unsigned but retains an old paper label affixed to the back of stretcher which reads "Henry William Struss Born" January 19th, 1852. Family history contends that the portrait is actually of Daniel Fawcett Tiemann (1805-1899) a successful industrialist who became mayor of New York City in 1858 to 1860. The painting is from an old Long Island NY estate" whose family members were direct descendents of D. F. Tiemann and are buried in the family plot along with D. F. Tiemann at Greenfield Cemetery in Uniondale, NY. Family has no other history or proof of this fact but it was always a spoken tradition in the family. The painting has been relined and done so poorly. There are also a few paint chips on the piece. Framed in an older gilt frame. Measures 34 ½" high x 24" wide. Frame measures 36 ½" x 26 ½".
