Coming Through the Rye by Frederic Remington

A fine art casting"Coming Through the Rye" was Frederic Remington's most ambitious sculpture. It depicts a group of four cowboys on running horses, the men shouting and shooting pistols into the air. Whether the "Rye" in the title refers to the plains' grasses or the variety of whiskey is anyone's guess!In 1989, a set of 23-part set of plaster molds were purchased from the son of Eric Heikka, an artist and friend of Frederic Remington. These molds still had waxes within them, which we carefully removed and restored over a period of several months. While we cannot say whether these waxes date from the period of Remington's original castings of this piece, there is no doubt that the castings from these molds are exceptionally fine. Our "Coming Through the Rye" is available in a limited edition of 100 bronze castings, each individually numbered and recorded. The artwork is signed "Frederic Remington" in the bronze, stands 29" high by 30" wide by 25.5" deep, and weighs a hefty 262 lbs. It is mounted onto a marble base.
