We quote from Dennis Oppenheim's artist statement concerning the final result of his vision - a mixed media sculpture of steel, plywood, hard foam, sheetrock and art books that is now part of the permanent collection at The Contemporary Museum in Honolulu: "The role of the teeth designate 'art books' as a conceptual bite. The 'knocked out teeth' signify entire sections of art history missing from the collection of writings." Oppenheim has made conceptual art, performance art, earth works, and quirky mechanical pieces that defy categorization and easy explanation. He still lives and works in New York City.
