A Louis XVI Style Ormolu-Mounted Mahogany Library-Table
BY GERVAIS-MAXIMILIEN-EUGENE DURAND, PARIS, LAST QUARTER 19TH CENTURY The rectangular hinged top centered by a gilt-tooled dark-brown leather writing-surface, lifting in two sections with a hinged document holder, the reverse of each with an adjustable silvered support, above two frieze drawers to the sides, on square tapering legs; the carcass stamped to the underside. G. Durand 30 in. high, closed; 53 ˝ in. wide; 35 ˝ in. deep, Provenance; Christies, 9/28/06, Lot 3 Gervais-Maximilien-Eugene Durand, born in Paris 1874, celebrated Ébénistes under the trade name “Durand et Fils”. He exhibited in the Exposition Universelle of 1889 where he received a Silver Medal. His designs were in competition to those of Beurdeley and Dasson. He produced almost exclusively many of the copies of furnishings of the XVIII Century. Provenance: A European lady Condition reportgood condition with normal age wear.
