MADELEINE FLEURY (French, 19th C.); Oil on canvas, ca. 1891; Framed; Provenance: Estate of Peter Whitehead, son of Byrdcliffe founders Jane and Ralph Radcliffe-Whitehead; Signed; Canvas: 15'' X 21 3/4''; Note: Fleury befriended Jane Whitehead while both were studying at the Académie Julian, where Fleury's father and brother taught painting. Madeleine became a frequent visitor to both Arcady and White Pines.

Full linen lining remounted on stretchers: Medium and support are stable and structurally sound with some dryness overall to medium; Black light examination shows a C-shaped restoration at the quarter-line left (in the grassy area of the image); there are touches of in painting in the sky area and around the edges of the painting at the frame edges. Light cracquelure throughout commensurate with age.
