Author: ** Description: Approximately 40 pieces of correspondence plus a few ephemeral items.Samuel Bonnell, Jr. was the proprietor of the Honeybrook Coal Co. of Pennsylvania. The present archive of correspondence document his activities and interest in the Colorado gold mining industry. Includes correspondence to Bonnell from prominent figures in Colorado mining history including Amos Steck (Mayor of Denver, Judge, State Legislature, Senate), A.X Rodgers (Supt. of Consolodated Bob Tail Gold Mine), Col. George E. Randolph (wounded at the battle of Gettysburg, later a mining agent at Central City, Colorado), J.A. Thatcher (Pres. First National Bank of Central City, Colorado), and many others. Most regarding Bonnell's inquiries into the gold mining ventures of Colorado including the Fisk Gold Mine, Bonanza Gold Mine, Ophir Mine, Bobtail Gold Mine, and much regarding the Bates and Bates-Hunter-Union mines.
