Title: The Yosemite Guide-Book: A Description of the Yosemite Valley and the Adjacent Region of the Sierra Nevada and of the Big Trees of California

Description: 155 pp. Illustrated with 8 wood-engraved plates from photographs of Carleton Watkins; 1 (of 2) folding map loose in endpaper pocket. 9x6½, original gilt-decorated green cloth. First Edition, First Printing.Text is expanded from The Yosemite Book, published in 1868. Calling card of Lieut. Col. R. S. Williamson, U.S.A. Corps of Engineers mounted to front free endpaper. Robert Stockton Williamson (1825-1882), was a topographer who worked, among other projects, on the Pacific Railroad survey. Mt. Williamson, the second highest peak in the Sierra Nevada range is named for him. Williamson is named in the text on p. 122. Cowan p. 699; Currey & Kruska 61; Farquhar 7b; Howes W389.

Covers quite worn, spine detached at front joint, slight loss to spine material, corners worn; front map pocket splitting away, lacking Yosemite Valley Map; text and plates clean, but overall good only.
