Colton Description: Maps and charts complete as listed, except for: 2 map pages are lacking (26 & 47) and two are added from the 1863 edition of the atlas (pp. 52 & 53), plus half of the map of New York state is lacking (p.27), and half of the Missouri-Kansas map is lacking (p.48). Plus several wood-engraved vignettes; plus a steel-engraved plate before the title page titled "American Atlas." 45.7x36.5 cm. (18x14½"), original half morocco backed cloth, front cover stamped with U.S. Seal vignette.With Subscriber's notice slip tipped in at title page. Contains a double-page map of the Southwestern United States, showing a wide Nevada and Utah with Utah’s lettering crossing over into Nevada, an extremely wide New Mexico above a thinner but equally wide Arizona, several Indian tribe names present, and shows Fremont's 1843 and 1844 routes. Other maps include: The World; North America; New England; Texas (3 insets); South America; Europe and many of its countries; Africa; the Roman Empire, etc. See Phillips Atlases 837 (citing 1862 edition).
