Description: Copper-engraved map, hand-colored in outline. 49.3xx88.5 cm. (19½x35"), folds as issued.Untitled map from "Report...of the Expedition of Dragoons, Under the Command of Colonel Henry Dodge, to the Rocky Mountains, during the Summer of 1835, &c." Across the center of the map in large letters is "Western Territory" and there is a large B in the upper right corner; the lands assigned to various Indian tribes from the east are bounded in color, with unsettled tribes shown in the west. The "Route of the Dragoons under the command of Col. Dodge in 1835" is shown, and other features include Bent's Trading House, Pike's Peak, Santa Fe, the Platte River, etc. Wheat notes the legend at bottom, "Estimated distance 1645 miles, by Lieut. Steen, United States Dragoons," and lists the map under Steen.

Condition report

Left margin trimmed to neat line,, 2x1" chip to lower left corner not affecting map detail, a few tiny splits at folds, very good.
